Sitting in his study Polan broods over his near defeat at the hands of Rage. He must have more power. More eggs, that's the answer. If he can absorb other dragons he can become more powerful then Rage. But where to find the other dragons? The cave!! He would go back and get more eggs while Rage is away. But he also needs to keep and eye on Rage. That spirit is the answer to that one. And the Dragon Spirit, he needed to crack its secrets.
" Come to me!! He called out. Up out of the floor Mags rose to find Polan sitting on a chair in his study. Careful not to get to close, Mags backed up a bit. He'd rather not feel Polan's necromantic touch again. It was like hot irons on naked skin. He looked at the man in black, his master, for now. But soon he just might get his freedom on his own.
" I have a job for you ." He said folding his arms in front of him. " You are to follow Rage and report back if he locates any more eggs. Do you understand?"
" I understand you." He said. "I report back if he finds any eggs."
" Yes." Polan said. "Do not disappoint me."
"I won't master." He said hurrying away. Mags took off through the ceiling. He was glad to get away from the awful place. Even as a spirit Mags could feel the oppressed mood of this dead place. Having located Rage before it was easier now, his energy stood out like a beacon to him. Mags oriented on Rage and closed his eyes. As a spirit he felt a second of displacement, then open his eyes and found himself drifting over Rage and his party. Slowly Mags drifted down to the dragons and their friends. He looked at Rage and memories began to flow into his mind. Mags remember how a rival sorcerer had taken his son and held him for ransom. He wanted Mags to help him take over the lands of the king who's land Mag lived in. Mags had sworn to protect and never betray his king. Knights and soldiers couldn't help him save his son. The minute they attacked the boy would be killed and that was not acceptable to him. But there was another way, someone else he might get to help him. Over two hundred years ago Mags had freed a young dragon from captivity and torture by defeating a slaver. The dragon thanked him and swore he would repay Mags one day. Now was the time. Mags called to that dragon and he came to his assistance. Alone the dragon freed his son, and Mags defeated the sorcerer. But there was something else. Mags son. The dragon saw something in the boy that impressed him. With Mags permission the dragon took the boy to his cave were he merged with a red dragon. Rage was his son. This was the same dragon that his son had become. Mags drifted down and looked into Rages eyes. Yes, this is his son Kevan Selmar. He could see Kevan's mother in his eyes. At that moment he know he would never be able to turn his son over to that necromancer. He had to make contact with him.
[KEVAN] Mags called.
" Stop !!" Rage held out his hand. " There's something here. I think its trying to contact me."
" What is it?" Jandar asked. " That shadow dragon?"
" No." He said. " Some kind of spirit I think." Jandar held his staff high and spoke a spell of revelation. His staff began to give off a soft white light and Mags drifted into view in front of Rage. He smiled at his son glad to see he was now king of the dragons.
[KEVAN DO YOU REMEMBER ME?] Mags asked him.
"Who is that?" Sarah asked. Rage looked very hard at Mags then his eyes flew open in recognition. How could he forget his own father.
" It's my father." He told his friends.. " Father it's been so long. How is this possible? I buried you in honors with the King. How are you here?"
[ YOU LOOK SO HANDSOME, RAGE IT IS NOW RIGHT?]
" Yes." he said. " These are members of my clan. Blaze, Gaia, and Nautica. This is Jandar Tyr, and his brothers Ono and Jayce."
[ GREETINGS TO YOU ALL. NOW I HAVE TO TELL YOU OF AN EVIL MAN]
On a hill on the out skirts of Napia, Polan stood in front of a stone dais. With him was the Dragon Spirit. Now was the time to try an siphon off as much power as he could. The quarter moon was high, Polan didn't feel that he was at his maximum strength but it would have to do. The necromantic dragon placed the spirit on the dais and raise his hands high.
LORDS OF DARKNESS, BEINGS OF HATE
I CALL UPON YOU TO UNSEAL MY FATE
THE POWER I SEEK LAYS HERE IN THIS STONE
GRANT ME THE POWER TO MAKE IT MY OWN.
Thunder roared as lightning struck the the Dragon Spirit, it began to glow and pour off a mystic light. A loud rumble came from the spirit as its power was being torn from it. Roars and screams echo from the spirit as it lost part of its being. . With a loud flash it became quiet. Polan held up a claw the pulsed with dark power.
" HA! HA1 HA! HA! HA!" His laughter drifted on the wind.
" That's more like it." He said. Polan shifted to dragon form and roared.
Spreading his wings he took off into the night. With all the power he took from the Dragon Spirit, this was the night to get all the eggs he wanted from the cave. He could start his own clan. With hundreds of dragons to follow his every wish. He would be invincible. His wings better with ease as he flew towards the cave. Polan thought nothing could beat him now. The Durmista Mountains were in sight, all he had to do was find the cave. That should be easy, all he had to do was look for the energy trail made by dragons. He shifted his vision to detect the trails. He saw nothing. Rages trail should be showing, it wasn't that long ago that he had left. Shadoe searched every shadow and cave he found and nothing. His anger grew as he searched. Maybe he could pick up the scent of dragons. Shadoe took a few sniffs of the wind and picked something up. There it is. Taking back off he followed it around the side of the mountain and to the next peak. Getting closer, the scent was becoming stronger. Shadow landed on a ledge and faced a wall. It ended here. But there was nothing, no entrance. He looked down and saw some gold nuggets on the ground. This wall was not real, its an illusion. Shifting back to Polan he reached out to touch the wall. Horrible pain lanced out his arm and into his chest. Polan screamed out and fell to the ground clutching his chest. By the gods of darkness, he'd never felt anything so painful. Polan got up and walked to the wall. It throbbed with power. Polan tried several spells to bring it down, But none worked. He needed Rage to bring down that spell.
[THAT'S RIGHT. YOU WILL NEVER GET THROUGH THE SPELL.]
" Who's talking?" Polan said, " I demand to know!!"
[NO ONE HERE CARES ABOUT YOUR DEMANDS. YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE.]
" We'll see." Polan said in Anger. He cast spell after spell, trying to weaken the spell, but to no effect.
[GO BACK TO YOUR DEAD CITY, YOU MURDERER. OR I'LL CAST THAT SPELL TO SURROUND YOU AND TRAP YOU HERE FOREVER.]
Shifting back to Shadoe, He took off into the sky. He hovered for a few minutes
[I'LL BE BACK, AND WHEN I DO, I'LL DESTROY YOU AND EVERYTHING HERE.]
Off he flew into the night.
[ YOU'LL SEE. I'LL BE BACK.] Gird stuck his head out of the cave and watched Shadoe fly off. Thank the gods he didn't try coming in, in dragon form it might have work. He might have gotten in. Gird wandered back into the cave. From the entrance he had seen Polan out there. He looked different now, more powerful. It was the egg. Somehow he had merged with it and now was a dragon too. A full dragon with all the abilities that go with whichever dragon he merged with. Gird know he had to warn Rage that Polan had been here and that he would be back. What would he do? Even with all the power Rage had given him. Gird knew he couldn't defeat him. But he sure wanted to try.
